The Rockford Fire Department made the following Facebook post Sunday, July 14:

Between 11 p.m. Saturday, July 13 and 6 a.m. Sunday, July 14, the Rockford Fire Department responded to more than 120 calls for service during a significant flash flood event. Throughout the night, crews provided crucial assistance in various emergencies:

  • Rescued individuals trapped in flooded and stalled vehicles.
  • Conducted welfare checks for citizens trapped by rapidly rising floodwaters.
  • Extinguished a detached garage fire within the flooded area.
  • Addressed a structural collapse caused by the flood.

“A large portion of the flooding occurred in the Keith Creek corridor, but localized flooding was reported across all areas within the city’s boundaries. Waters in certain areas remain high, and we strongly urge citizens to stay out of all flooded areas and never drive vehicles through flooded roadways,” the department said.
