TUPELO — All-America City Officials held its first meetings regarding the capital plan, which started with a report on the administration’s progress on replacing Fire Station No. 5.

Mayor Todd Jordan and other members of the administration met with the Tupelo City Council during a Thursday afternoon work session, breaking down the council and city’s priority projects for the coming fiscal year.

“We just want to make sure we know what you are looking for so we can help adjust those priorities,” Chief Operations Officer Don Lewis said to the council.

The city expects to inject a little over $21.3 million in funds for projects in 2025, which does not include roll over funding for projects that began but were not completed in 2024.

Projects include replacing Fire Station No. 5, Aquatic Center air condition upgrades, railroad crossing upgrades, which include the 4.6 million the city got in funding from the state; new vehicles for each department as needed, McCullough Boulevard improvements, Butler Road improvements, Ballard Park’s continued upgrades, cemetery improvements, upgrades to the Tupelo Police training facilities, expanding the Class II rubbish site and much more.

Fire Station No. 5 replacement full-steam ahead

Representatives from Tupelo-based firm PryorMorrow met with the council alongside Fire Chief Brad Robinson about their progress replacing Fire Station No. 5, presenting preliminary designs and an estimated budget.

“With council approval … then we stand prepared to move forward on the job in the bid market,” PryorMorrow Project Architect Rudd Robinson said.

The city expects to spend up to $4.8 million for the fire station, which will be built at the existing fire station’s property along with the adjacent property the city recently bought and cleared using blight removal funds. With the fire station, the city also hopes to build a pole barn to house equipment.

“This is one thing the city can say, ‘We are making a stamp on the south end,’” Brad Robinson said.
