Girard Hose Company No. 1, in conjunction with Columbia Hose & Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1 and Ringtown Valley Fire & Rescue Co., is excited to announce the award of a regional grant from FEMA, through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, Girard Hose Company No. 1 said in a Facebook post.

This grant will fund the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), replacing aging units the companies currently use, the post said. The new SCBA will be equipped with modern features to keep firefighters safer with less maintenance issues, which the departments have been facing with the older units.

The grant is a matching grant, meaning each company will have to fund a portion of the purchases. Over the next few months, the department will be asking for your support as all three fire companies share fundraising announcements for each other to help make this possible.
