The South Pittsburg Mountain Volunteer Fire Department made the following Facebook post Sunday, Sept. 9:

The South Pittsburg Mountain Volunteer Fire Department recently received $71,288 from the Gary Sinise Foundation for turnout gear for all of the department’s firefighters.

This gear expires every 10 years. It currently costs about $4,500 to equip one person. This doesn’t include the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). That is about another $10,000 per person. It also expires every 10 years.

Lt. Brandon Gilliam with the the help of Secretary/Treasurer Barry McDevitt acquired the Gary Sinise grant and one for the SCBA from the Tennessee Fire Marshal’s Office for $68,275.

The department will also have all of its tires replaced by Bridgestone. South Pittsburg Mountain has already received the tires for the tanker.
