The Hi-Lift Jack Company, a manufacturer in the farm and off-road industry for over 100 years, modified its Hi-Lift Jack to enhance its abilities for use in the fire and rescue services.

The new First Responder Jack was designed by firefighters to aid in extrication, heavy rescue, forcible entry and rapid intervention team (RIT) procedures, as well as stabilization and shoring.

The company said the new product will soon be available in 48-inch or 60-inch sizes with an all-steel, cast iron, and high-strength aluminum construction. The First Responder Jack offers up to 4,660 pounds of leveraging, lifting and winching options, according to the company, and an aggressive 36-square-inch base provides a safe and effective platform for a number of rescue options including, 4x4s, chain and straps, and 360-degrees pinned rotation.

The First Responder Jack is comprised of powder-coated bright yellow main components with fire red actuating pieces and has glow-in-the-dark features for use in IDLH and low-light atmospheres. Hi-Lift said it can be used in extreme heat or cold conditions and under water.

The First Responder Jack, which does not require fuel or power, provides spreading and ramming capabilities used in extrication equal to those of more expensive, hydraulic tools, according to Hi-Lift.
