Worthington Composite Non-Limited Life Cylinder Now Manufactured in Europe

COLUMBUS, OH—Worthington Industries, Inc. announced that it is now manufacturing its Type III breathing air composite cylinder in Slupsk, Poland. European customers now can take advantage of improved lead times due to shorter transit, as well as less risk in currency fluctuations.

The Type III breathing air cylinder is based on a well-established technology manufactured by Worthington Industries in the United States since 2009, specifically designed for use by fire brigades and military services. The Type III cylinders for European markets will be manufactured in Worthington’s newly expanded manufacturing facility in Poland. The facility is certified to ISO/TS 16949 and also produces LPG Type I and Type III compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders for vehicles.

“Production of our Type III cylinder in Poland provides better service to the European market, with improved lead times and decreased currency risk,“ said Gabriele Zeilerbauer, Director European Sales of industrial products for Worthington Industries. “The Type III composite cylinders are designed for fire and military markets that prefer a lightweight breathing air cylinder. Customers can now look to Worthington’s European manufacturing facilities for both traditional Type I steel and Type III composite breathing air cylinders.“

Worthington’s portfolio of products matches unique fire and military brigade preferences, including different capital needs and local work environment. Worthington offers the lightest steel cylinder available for breathing air (6 L 300 BAR), composite breathing air cylinders, and steel and aluminum cylinders for fire suppression systems.

The cylinders use a seamless aluminum liner for gas-tight construction and zero gas permeation. The metal liner also supports composite wrapping to minimize flexing and breakage during normal day-to-day use. Cylinders are available in 20 year, 30 year or unlimited life models, and are manufactured to EN and GOST standards.
