North Bay Fire and Emergency Services in Ontario, Canada, has done everything possible to keep its 22-year-old aerial in service, but the time has come to replace it, according to a report published by the North Bay Nugget.

According to the report, the fire department and the City Council are poised to spend $1,623,336 on a new tandem axle aerial through Safetek Emergency Vehicles to replace the old apparatus as councilors are expected to decide on the appropriation on Tuesday night (Aug. 9).

The old truck, which is no longer compliant with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards will be sold, according to the report, which pointed out the apparatus will be 23-years-old when the new one is delivered in 16 months.

As it will be built to meet the needs of North Bay, the new apparatus will improve safety and operations, according to the report.
