FIRE-DEX has appointed John Zbozien as director of marketing and announced that Lance Matiste is rejoining the Fire-Dex team as a regional sales manager. Zbozien will help elevate the company’s marketing and new product introductions. Matiste’s sales area consists of TN, AL, MS, AK, LA, OK, and TX.

KME has announced two orders for apparatus from the Los Angeles County (CA) Fire Department. Both purchases include a provision for fire departments nationwide that allows them to “tag on” to the contract and take advantage of the discounted pricing until September 1, 2012. The first order is for 100-foot quint tractor-drawn aerials. The second order is for pumpers with pumping systems that feature 1,500-gpm midship pumps and 250-gpm auxiliary pumps for pump-and-roll operations.

LION has introduced the LION Fire Academy, an online destination for firefighting personal protective equipment (PPE) resources and education. Students, instructors, and active firefighters will find videos, training aids, and links to all things PPE. More information is available at www.lionfireacademy.com.

PIERCE MANUFACTURING has delivered four Quantum® pumpers to the San Antonio (TX) Fire Department. The department’s frontline apparatus fleet now features 55 Pierce Quantum chassis vehicles including pumpers, aerial ladders, aerial platforms, and heavy-duty rescue configurations. The vehicles feature 500-hp engines, TAK-4® independent front suspension, Command Zone™ electronics, seating for six firefighters, 500-gallon water tanks, and top-mount pump panels.

TetraKO, LLC, the fire suppression subsidiary of EarthClean Corporation, announced that the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) of Minnesota has approved a cost-share grant in the amount of $300,000. The monies, funded by AURI, the Minnesota Corn Research & Promotion Council, and the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, are for TetraKO to develop a Class B or Class A and B fire suppressant.

RealView LLC has announced that the Howard County (MD) Department of Fire and Rescue Services is implementing its CommandScope™ all hazard preincident plan program. CommandScope gives first responders access to preplan information, both on site and en route on their mobile data terminals (MDTs), which includes maps, photographs, utility shutoff locations, floor plans, fire protection systems, hazardous material information, occupant information, and emergency lockdown procedures about the site they have been dispatched to. Already, CommandScope has successfully imported preplans for nearly 6,000 commercial properties in Howard County.

GelTech SOLUTIONS, Inc. creators of FireIce, a water-enhancing fire suppressant, announced that FireIce was successfully used to protect the Jicarilla Apache Nation Indian Reservation near Dulce, New Mexico, from an approaching wildfire. Michael Cordani, chief executive officer of GelTech Solutions, states, “GelTech is encouraged by the continued success of FireIce in New Mexico and thankful for the opportunities provided to us by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). Our equipment, product, and personnel resources are in place to swiftly deploy to any wildfire incident in the United States.”

STREAMLIGHT®, Inc. has announced that the company and several of its United States distribution partners recycled about 2,100 pounds of rechargeable batteries during the first quarter of 2012. This is the second year that Streamlight and its distributors have participated in Call2Recycle®, the only free rechargeable battery recycling program in North America. The program helps businesses care for the environment through its rechargeable battery collection program. For 2011, Streamlight and its distribution partners recycled approximately 16,700 pounds of rechargeable flashlight batteries.

Emergency Technologies, Inc. (ETI) Visual Fire On-Demand, a hosted version of the company’s Fire Records Management System (Fire RMS), is being used by the Rutherford County (TN) Fire Rescue Department. The Visual Fire On-Demand solution is a Web-deployable/software as a service (SaaS) version of its Visual Fire software. Visual Fire On-Demand is a suite of modules for fire incident reporting, mobile field reporting, equipment inventory, personnel, schedule viewer, master indices, audit viewer, assignment manager, training and certification records, hydrant information, and structural preplans.
