The Reedy Creek Fire Department is responding to medical emergencies in regular SUVs due to trucks and rescue units that are breaking down and unreliable.
WESH 2 reports that the firefighters union is speaking out about the poorly maintained fleet, which has stranded firefighters on their way to emergencies, even while transporting patients. The report adds that concerns have been brought to the Reedy Creek administration but no response.
Reedy Creek, which services Florida’s Disney World, normally has four engines and eight ambulances to respond to emergencies. Right now the department is down to just two fire engines, a heavy rescue and a ladder in service, the union told WESH.
WESH 2 says it also reached out to the board–each board member–and asked for a statement but was declined. The station also submitted a public records request that has yet to be received.
