See Colorado Springs (CO) Fire Department’s New Drone in Action

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) has invested in new drone technology, reports koaa.com.

The new drone—which has been in service for a few weeks—is larger, sturdier, and boasts more technology-supported capabilities than does the old drone, according to the report. Its infrared camera can show fire going toward a home.

Officials note the new drone will help with monitoring different types of fires—structure, wildland, etc.—to search-and-rescue missions as well as high-angle rescues.

The drone’s pilot has a controller, and there’s a second controller for an incident commander. It allows them to see images in real time. If can also review recordings, if so desired.
