Antique Fire Truck Show in Spencerport (NY) Inspires Future Firefighters

Fire departments and individuals in the Finger Lakes Region of New York gathered for an emergency vehicle and antique fire truck show not only to preserve the past, but inspire future firefighters, according to an report published by Spectrum News 1.

According to the report the event was hosted by the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America (SPAAMFAA).

Among the apparatus at the exhibition was a unit from Ionia Fire Department in Ontario County that was in use from the mid-1950s until 1972.

Explorer firefighters from Chili and Spencerport fire departments participated with the program and performed a simulated search and rescue mission, according to the report.

Some of the teenagers who participated in the event said they hope to join their local fire departments in the future, the report said.
