W.S. Darley & Company was selected the winner of the annual Illinois Family Business of the Year Award for medium-size companies. The competition is sponsored by the Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center.
This award program recognizes exceptional Illinois-based family businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to business development, family and the greater Illinois community. This year’s award had nearly 200 nominations in three business size categories.
More than 40 members of the Darley family attended the award ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. Company President and CEO Paul Darley accepted the award, crediting Darley employees, customers, key strategic partners and previous generations for the company’s success.
“The second generation instilled strong values in the third generation that is currently running the business,” he said. “These values include integrity, service to humanity, family unity and stewardship… We all truly view ourselves as stewards of this business.”
W.S. Darley, located in Itasca, Ill., was formed in 1908 and has manufacturing, engineering and research and development operations in Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Toledo, Ore. Its Ohler Pump Division in Janesville, Iowa, was acquired in 2007.
