The Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department has taken delivery of a new pumper purchased with the help of a $200,000 grant from the Texas Forest Service. The grant helped with the $390,000 cost of the rig; the rest will be financed. The rig is built on a four-door commercial chassis.

The new truck, a Sutphen, is the first new rig for the department in two decades. The pumper it is replacing will be moved to the department’s substation.
